Historie International Youth Rugby Festival

Dank jullie wel!
Op Paaszondag 21 april was het weer zover: het International Youth Rugby Festival bij Rugby Club Hilversum! De 20ste editie van dit ééndaagse toernooi begon die dag om 10.00 uur met de eerste wedstrijden. In totaal speelden 85 teams in de leeftijd van 7 tot en met 18 jaar zo’n 175 wedstrijden. De teams kwamen uit 7 verschillende landen: Zuid-Afrika, Engeland, Wales, Schotland, Noord-Ierland, België en natuurlijk Nederland. Bijna de helft van de deelnemende teams kwam uit het buitenland. Op de kaart is te zien waar de teams vandaan kwamen.
Rugby Club Hilversum had iedereen van harte uitgenodigd deze dag bij het Kininelaantje langs te komen en te proeven van de unieke rugby sfeer tijdens een van de grootste jeugdtoernooien van Europa. Eten, drinken en gezelligheid was er in overvloed, en de wedstrijden waren zeker de moeite waard! Het weer hielp natuurlijk erg mee.
Deze jaargang werd het festival met een speciale wedstrijd afgesloten. Jong Oranje Onder 17 speelde een vriendschappelijke interland tegen Boys Clubs of Wales, een hoog aangeschreven invitatie-team uit Wales. Deze spannende wedstrijd werd glansrijk door Oranje U17 gewonnen. De doedelzakken van onze gasten Schotland droegen ernorm bij aan de sfeer.
Graag willen we alle vrijwilligers en referees bedanken voor hun inzet, zonder hun was het niet zo’n geweldig feest geworden!

This Easter Sunday April 21st the International Youth Rugby Festival took place at Rugby Club Hilversum. The 20th edition of this one-day-tournament will started at 10.00 am with the first matches. Some 85 teams, in the age of 7 to 18 years old, played approximately 175 matches. The teams came from 7 different countries: South Africa, England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Belgium and of course The Netherlands. Almost half of the participating teams came from outside The Netherlands. The map below shows where all the teams came from.
Rugby Club Hilversum invited everyone to come down to Kininelaantje in Hilversum on Easter Sunday to get a good taste of the unique rugby atmosphere at one of the largest youth tournaments in Europe. There was plenty of drinks, food and Dutch ‘gezelligheid’, and the matches were abosolutely worth while! Obviously the good weather contributed enormously.
This year the Festival was closed with a special treat. The Dutch U17 selection will played a friendly match against Boys Clubs of Wales, a renowned invitational team from Wales. This match started around 5.30 pm. and was won by Netherlands U17. The spectators had a wonderful time!
We would like to express our gratitude to all volunteers and referees, without them it would not have been such a wonderful event!
